Pizza vs. Meatpies…Part Two.

A beautiful Sunday afternoon at the historic (and utterly dangerous) Palumbo Field. Two teams desperately needing a victory went head to head and put on quite a match. The first encounter between the two squads was a thrilling back and forth game with Stargazy holding on for the victory, what occurred on Sunday probably would echo that tight match.

The midfield of Stadium gave the back line of Stargazy fits early with Abdou making runs from wherever Abdou wants to make runs and the quick feet of Roberto feeding those runs. A near point blank shot on the north goal was saved by Stargazy’s Meeker with his feet. That shot definitely woke up the Meatpies’ back line as everyone played with a bit more ‘want.’

It was around the middle of the first half when the customary fouls/near fouls/no fouls that lead to complaining started. Stargazy did its best to not partake (too much). The latter half of the first half really belonged to Stargazy’s attack and testing Said in goal as much as possible. The half ended nil a piece.

With the wind coming out of the south, Stargazy looked to counter quickly putting long throws, deep free kicks and wild punts into the box hoping to break through. Rich did a tremendous job of patrolling the back line throughout the second half.

Finally around the 65′ minute Alex Torriero, channeling the thought of her lame brother-in-law, did her best Greg McKenna impersonation by firing a cross into the box that fortuitously turned into a one-nothing Stargazy lead. The momentum had finally shifted.

Stargazy smelled blood and continue to attack only to be denied one after another time. Roberto got loose in the 80′ minute and slalomed through the ‘gazy back line and catching Meeker out of position (seems like a common thing of late) only to put the ball just over the crossbar. Collective groans and sighs of relief ensued from both sides.

As the game came to a close it was another one goal Stargazy victory over Stadium at the hallowed ground.
