Recap
Irish Times emerged victorious against Brauhaus Schmitz last night at Palumbo in a game that was an advertisement for what BVFC is all about: two good teams playing hard, battling for every ball on a crappy field but never crossing the line. The game started very evenly, with Brauhaus working through their attacking mid trio of Tim, Rocket and JP with Grey using his youthful legs down the wing. Their best chances came on two free kicks that went just wide and a header off a throw in that Ben just got a hand to in the IT net. IT looked to attack through James, Mark and Koffi and would have been on the board early but for a few great stops by Josh. Irish finally broke through a little over halfway through the first half when midfield maestro Ian controlled the ball, went past a couple of defenders and unleashed a shot through a crowd that slammed into the net.
The second half was more of the same, with both teams battling in the midfield and consistently creating chances to score. Pat List was given a hilarious yellow card as Brauhaus lost count and somehow had 11 players on the pitch (we think he was the last one to come onto the field). Josh kept his team in the game with a fabulous save off a Mark far post header, setting up a frantic last two minutes. Brauhaus had several corner kicks, a few throw ins and at least one free kick, all with Josh up in the box as the extra attacker trying to get the equalizer. Kevin in the IT nets and the IT d were able to keep them out, with Kev coming up with a huge punch in the crowded box on the last Brauhaus chance.
Thanks to Aaron and Mike for reffing.
