Recap
The Palumbo season kicked off Sunday with Brauhaus starting their title defense against Dalton and Associates. Dalton were forced to start the game short-handed as the rest of the associates made their way to the field, but fortunately were able to get a full squad on after just a few mins. After that the first half was an evenly matched affair with Brauhaus striking first through a near post shot from JP Faunes off a pass from Mark H. Brauhaus then doubled their lead just before half time through a “Palumbo special” Dalton own goal off of JP’s corner which came across low and hard. Bad luck for Dalton on that one, but they didn’t let their heads down and came back quickly and almost scored through some increased pressure offensively, coming close and even hitting the post on one effort. First half ended 2-0 to Haus.
The 2nd half was more back and forth, with Dalton’s offense continuously testing Brauhaus’ defense through the play of Mike D and Silas. The champs were equal to the task, however, and eventually netted a 3rd goal through another strong shot from JP, assisted by Meg Strenski’s throw in. Goalies Josh and Connor were frequently called into action with each making some impressive saves. Tim Tomalavage eventually got one back for Dalton with about 10 mins to go on a nice header from close range. Time ran out on the associates and the game ended 3-1.
Big thanks to the Graff father/son duo for reffing a pretty clean game.
