Stargazy vs Dalton & Associates

A huge match with major playoff implications for both squads went down on a Halloween filled Saturday evening at Penn. Dalton had nearly a full squad in tow while Stargazy, yet again, fielded 10/11 players vs the always dangerous attack of the Associates.

Both teams came out with drastically different methods of the game. Stargazy looking for possession (had no subs) and Dalton looking to get the four horsemen loose of Everett, Shawn, Silas and Mike. The first half really offered little in the way of great scoring opportunities for either team.

Both midfields did a great job of winning possession. A couple of fouls atop the Stargazy box allowed opportunities for Dalton & Co to get a set piece chance. Stargazy stayed disciplined providing those chances to be simply chances.

ChinHenry with the new faces on the flanks of Dan Starr (Went to the Heimir Hallgrímsson Defensive Drills Sessions whilst in Iceland the past week) and Marathon Rob, knew they were in for a track meet really closed space very well leaving Stargazy’s keeper really sweeping more than shot stopping (which is a good thing).

0-0 at half had both teams feeling well about the first half.

The second half echoed much of the first with Stargazy having a few opportunities but nothing that was utterly dangerous. In roughly the 60′ minute, the Meatpies’ Greg Katz, knowing he was short on time as he had to catch a nearby train to NYC, did his best Roberto Carlos impersonation striking a driving, knuckling, missile from 30 yards out that tore the paint off the post caroming off of the post and along the goal line. It was one of those moments when everybody is watching the ball knowing there is really no chance of stopping it, except for fate.

Luckily for Dalton, fate was on their side. A few moments later, Katz took up his belongings and headed for 30th Street Station. Yet again, Stargazy found itself down a player to the treacherous D&A counter attack. Moving a few players around Stargazy held firm. The whistle nearly came too late for them as a foul 35 yards off of Stargazy’s line resulted in the final chance for either team. Lance Geren, Esq. hit a beautiful ball in and found the strong right foot of Dave Petit a mere ten yards from goal. Meeker made the save of the game for his team and the tweet-tweet came at the ‘right’ time.

0-0 final with both teams giving all they had.

A huge thank you to Rich and Dave Ramsey for sticking around to ref that heated mess.
