Brauhaus Schmitz vs Stargazy

Stargazy and Brauhaus met for the first time Saturday afternoon at Penn.  Gazy was without their captain and star Greg McKenna, who sustained a nasty knee injury the week before at Palumbo.  Hoping for a speedy recovery, Greg.   Gazy also were limited to only 1 sub for most of the game, with Brauhaus having 3 subs on their side.  The first half was an even affair with some strong saves from Meeker the Keeper.  Brauhaus possessed well but struggled to break through the strong backline of Gazy anchored by Kyle Custer and Mike Gallagher.  Offensively for Gazy, Kim Malecki  was giving the Brauhaus defense headaches with her threatening runs towards the box.  Both sides held though with the half ending 0-0.

Brauhaus was finally able to breakthrough in the 2nd half with Tim Wilson hammering a near post shot in the box to put them up 1-0.  JP Faunes followed that up quickly with a rocket from outside the box which gave the Hausers a 2 goal cushion.  Gazy didn’t let up however, and almost scored with a strong free kick from Dan Starr.  Only a flying save from fill-in keeper Brian “Schoppe who?” Jones kept the shot from tucking under the bar.  Gazy did finally get the goal they deserved a few minutes later.  Some movement into the Brauhaus box found Mike Montague “monkeying around” by the back post and he deftly buried his shot against his old club.  Stargazy continued to press and were aided by some fresh legs finally with Dave McHenry arriving late in the 2nd half.  B Jones was called into action in the Brauhaus net several more times but was equal to the task.  Time eventually ran out and Brauhaus held on for the 2-1 win.

Thanks to Lance and Rich for each calling a great game.

Dalton & Associates vs Solow, Isbell & Palladino

Unseasonably warm and humid Saturday afternoon started with the SIP Immigrants taking on Dalton & Associates. SIP were nearly at full strength, Dalton & Assoc had a couple of subs. Only a couple of minutes into the game SIP captain Justin Meltzer was fouled in the penalty area and converted the spot kick for an early SIP lead. Only a few minutes later, after some nice SIP passing, Justin nipped into the box and stuck away his second and the Immigrants were off to a flying start. Dalton & Assoc settled down after the early setback and fought their way back into the game, and captain Michael Dalton rounded SIP keeper Andy Hallman who was caught out of position, but Harry Middleton cleared Dalton’s effort off the line to preserve the 2-0 lead into halftime.
Early in the second half a perfect feed from Justin found SIP forward Mark Comerota alone in front of goal, he settled with his left and slotted the ball home with his right past onrushing keeper Connor Dalton for a 3-0 lead. Not long after, on a free kick service from the right side of the Immigrants’ penalty area, Mike Dalton was held in the box. Second-half keeper Craig Comisar had earlier made a fantastic save to preserve the Immigrants’ advantage, but he couldn’t quite get to Mike’s well-placed PK, 3-1. Near the end of the game SIP’s Jim Reggiani’s wicked cross/shot from the right side brought Connor to his near post – he got his fingertips to it but couldn’t quite keep it out. Final result 4-1 in favor of the Immigrants.
Many thanks to Rich and Aaron for reffing.
